Supercars enduro change on the cards for 2024

THERE is set to be a significant change to the Supercars endurance races next year, pending board approval.

As first reported by News Corp, the Supercars Commission has agreed to table a motion to mandate that primary drivers must start all endurance races.

The ruling will come into effect if it is now passed by the Supercars board.

Once again, next year’s enduros will comprise of the Sandown 500 and Repco Bathurst 1000.

The Bend will then make its enduro debut in 2025, likely in place of Sandown.

The concept of stopping teams from putting co-drivers in the car for the start of enduros – which has tended to be a strategically enticing option – flared up after a wild beginning to the 2022 Great Race.

There’s also a feeling from some quarters that Supercars misses an opportunity when its stars are not in action as the world tunes in for the start of the Bathurst showpiece event.

Among broader changes coming for 2024 is the introduction of a live pitlane.
