‘Acura Performance EV Concept’ Previews a – You Guessed It – Kelley Blue Book

This week, Acura showed off a concept car officially named the “Acura Performance EV Concept.” Guess what it hints at?

Some automakers frequently show off concept cars that are pure design sketches never meant for production. Acura—think fancy Honda—isn’t one of those. The company rarely reveals a concept that doesn’t reach production soon after, in toned-down form.

The company doesn’t even bother pretending this is some dreaming exercise. It just says outright that a car based on the model is “scheduled to go into production in late 2025.”

It will need some toning down. Acura calls the concept an SUV, but it’s more like a sports coupe on big tires. Some elements, like the tiny wing cameras for side mirrors and a jutting jaw, would never pass crash tests and will not make production. The concept rides on massive 23-inch wheels.

But dial the attitude back 10%, and you can easily envision a sporty crossover mined from the same idea vein. Acura says, “The concept’s aggressive front fascia draws inspiration from the high-tech form and function of hydrofoil superyachts.” A li’l less yachty version would work on the road.

Acura hasn’t provided a glimpse of the interior.

Nor has it revealed many performance specifics. The company does say it “will be the first model engineered on the new Honda-developed EV platform.” The company’s two current EVs — the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX — are built in partnership with General Motors. They share most of their parts with the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and other electric cars built on GM’s Ultium platform.

The Performance EV, whatever Acura decides to call it, will be designed entirely in-house with Honda parts. We don’t yet have a clue what they’ll call it. Early photos sent to the press use the filename “raiden25,” but a quick search shows that the Raiden is a fictional car in the GTA5 universe. So, the 2025 Acura Raiden might not be available.
