Supercars to return to Windshear wind tunnel

SUPERCARS will spend an additional day in the Windshear wind tunnel in a bid to finalise aero packages prior to the 2024 season.

It’s been announced via the category’s official website that further work will take place at the North Carolina facility next week, on January 12.

That comes despite Supercars stating that aero parity had been reached following three days of running both the Mustang and Camaro at Windshear last month.

Rather, cited as the focus now is “refining the aesthetics of modifications made to the Ford Mustang” – understood to translate as ensuring the updated car is as much like its roadgoing counterpart as possible.

The initial visit to Windshear led to changes to the splitter and rear wing on both cars.

“Comprehensive reports, along with detailed data from the December test, have been provided to all teams, emphasising transparency in the development process,” said Supercars CEO Shane Howard.

“While both cars are still in the USA (at NASCAR’s R&D facility), a decision has been agreed to by both Homologation Teams to conduct one further wind tunnel examination of the updated Ford model using the agreed modifications made after aero parity was reached during the December test.”

Both the Mustang and Camaro will run at Windshear on January 12.

The 2024 season will kick off at Mount Panorama on February 23-25, following pre-season tests at Queensland Raceway (February 5) and Winton (February 7).
