American muscle cars, ’50s classics, hot rods and more have made their way from across the country to Osceola County. A record-setting 4,500 cars have rolled into Osceola Heritage Park.It’s all for the 25th anniversary of the world’s largest collector car auction, Mecum. “If you can imagine, 25 years ago, this auction had 50 cars, and it was held in a parking lot of a laundromat next to a chicken coop,” said Dave Magers, the CEO of Mecum Auctions. Now, there’s the auction, the showcase, the Dodge thrill rides and the vendors, and this year, there’s an exclusive display of Ferraris.”Inside that room, there are eight vintage Ferraris from the 1960s, a couple of them single price tag of over $30 million each, and the total value of those eight Ferraris in that room is over $125 million,” Magers said. Along with the Ferraris are hundreds of Corvettes.Three have been preserved since the ’60s.There’s one in particular we’re told is all original aside from the battery.”These three cars represent a lifetime of searching for real,” collector Mark Davis said. The trio is owned by Corvette collector Davis, who’s owned about 150 of them over the years. “My mother always told the story that I fell in love with Corvettes when I was 5 years old, and I started working when I was 10,” Davis said. “By the time I was 17, I bought my first Corvette, which was in 1972, and that just fueled my passion.”In 2023, Mecum made a record-breaking $234 million in sales.This event is expecting to break that record again. “It is a place to see cars that you have never seen before, you will never see again and some prices, some values that you can’t even imagine,” Magers saidIf you’re interested in attending, Mecum runs through Jan. 14.You don’t have to be a bidder.
