NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A driver in a stolen a delivery truck led NYPD officers on a chase on Staten Island, striking nearly a dozen vehicles and injuring several people Thursday evening, authorities said.
It began before 6 p.m. in New Jersey when the 48-year-old driver stole a WB Mason truck, according to officials.
NYPD officers on Staten Island spotted the truck at Bishop Street and Cranford Avenue in Stapleton. Officers attempted to stop the driver who then put the vehicle into reverse, striking a police car and dragged it about 30-40 feet while attempting to flee.
The chase spanned about 5 miles through several neighborhoods and the driver struck into nearly two dozen vehicles, including three police cars, along the way, police said.
The driver attempted to exit the truck outside of Dixon’s restaurant on Van Duzer and Beach streets, but was caught by officials.
Four officers and at least five civilians suffered minor injuries.
Charges against the driver are still pending, authorities said.
