In our Week 34 Car Show Report, we’re riding shotgun with Scot S. He’s driving us to Dana Point for the Orange County city’s annual show. And, his report is below.
Tom,
Sunday we drove down to Dana Point for the annual show that is held on the street behind the Lantern District Arch.
– A clean 67 Goat was the first car we saw.
– A 39 Ford COE that we’ve seen at several shows. I love the look of this style. My objection to this build is that the engine is moved behind the cab. This has the advantages of a quieter cab, easier access to the engine, showmanship, and maybe better vehicle balance. Still don’t like that, but I’m glad he did it.
– An Impala that looks like it has been given a fastback treatment
– There were several Datsuns – mostly 240s – but I liked this 2000
– Then there’s the 1969 Camaro with all of the body panels replicated in carbon fiber. (Also pictured above.) It’s set on an aluminum frame and uses an aluminum block LS engine for a combined weight reduction from ~3400 lbs to ~2600 lbs. The owner says that the original body panels were digitized and bucks created on which the carbon fiber was laid. And it may be that he has the only one. Check out https://www.finalespeed.com/
– My wife’s favorite was the 53 Hot Pink Mini. ‘Cute’ won out over any technical factor.
– My favorite was the Hudson Hornet with dual Graham Superchargers, ganged onto one drive rod powered by a dedicated pulley.

P.S. Just walking to the show there were some interesting cars parked on the street:
– First Generation Falcon Wagon (I like these and the early Rancheros)
– An early bathtub Porsche
– A forlorn F-series truck
– A Chevy truck that is down to the metal. Didn’t stop to check for clear or wax.
– A drop-top Poncho snapped in passing
