  • It includes upsized cylinders, pistons, and MLS head gaskets.
  • Pricing is set at $1,599, and you can pick between three finishes.

Think popular cruiser engines and Harley-Davidson’s Milwaukee Eight mill will certainly pop into your mind. After all, it has an abundance of torque, decent reliability, and enough horsepower to have you grinning from ear to ear. But as we often say, things can always get better, and the folks at S&S Cycle believe in the same idea. This is why the company constantly works to come up with performance for popular Harleys–the latest example being the new 136ci big bore kit. It’s the company’s biggest bore kit for the M8 engine (yet), enough to transform your cruiser into a 150-horsepower beast.

The kit comprises up-sized 4.32-inch bore cylinders and pistons, along with MLS (multi-layered steel) head gaskets. These require a 4 ⅝-inch stroker crank kit (sold separately by S&S) to work, and together, bump up the capacity of your 114ci engine to a whopping 136ci. In metric units, the engine capacity increases from 1,868 to 2,229 cubic centimeters.

Although that’s a massive jump, the new bores, pistons, and crank all fit right into the stock engine cases of the Milwaukee Eight mill. This discounts the need for any chassis tweaks to fit the upgraded powerhouse, and even the engine height remains unchanged. In fact, S&S has also powder-coated the new cylinders to match the stock finish. So unless you put the 136-inch cam cover badge, no one would know you’re packing some serious firepower.

Speaking of which, let’s talk numbers. On a Harley-Davidson Street Glide (as an example), the Milwaukee Eight 114 engine is good for 103 horsepower and 123 pound-feet. On the dyno, this equates to 81 ponies and 111 pound-feet, respectively. Whereas, with the 136ci big bore kit, S&S claims the engine churns out 150 horsepower and 147.5 pound-feet.

Both are dyno-tested figures (at the wheel), so you’re looking at roughly 160-170 ponies and 160 pound-feet at the crank. Not only is this a serious gain, but that’s superbike levels of horsepower right there. It’s even enough to rejuvenate old Harley and make you fall in love with it once again. We say this because the big bore kit fits all M8 models from 2017 onwards.
