Car show and fundraiser planned to support family of SC deputy shot in line of duty

The local nonprofit Memory Blues is hosting a car show and fundraiser on Saturday in Seneca, South Carolina, to support the family of Corporal Lucas Watts. The Oconee County deputy was shot when he tried to pull over a vehicle on Nov. 16.The event is from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Lifepoint Church at 1926 Blue Ridge Blvd., Seneca, SC. Tracy Gaylor, the founder of Memory Blues, said it will be a family-friendly gathering with classic cars, Jeeps, hot rods and bikes. Gaylor said there will also be food trucks, a raffle, a visit from Santa and activities for kids. Gaylor said 100% of the proceeds raised will be given to the family of Cpl. Watts. “These families, they live in constant uncertainty. They don’t know what’s going to happen from day to day. So they need the support of the community,” Gaylor said. Gaylor asks local businesses to donate gift certificates or gift cards for the raffle if they would like to help. “We’ll have a community banner that everybody in attendance can sign, and this banner will be presented to the family,” Gaylor said. Gaylor said people who would like to help can also contribute monetary donations. She said people can contact her at memorybluessc@gmail.com or by calling (864) 787-5588.On Thursday, law enforcement and first responders from around the area lined a bridge along Interstate 85 as Watts was taken to the rehab facility in Atlanta.
